Pibb Xtra Review (Soda Tasting #26)

Pibb Xtra is Coca-Cola’s pepper market soda and the primary competitor to Dr Pepper. Introduced in 1972 and originally known as Mr. Pibb, the brand changed to Pibb Xtra in 2001, introducing “a bolder version of the original Mr. Pibb taste.”

For more pepper sodas, please check out my blind tasting of a selection of them, featuring Dr Pepper, Pibb Xtra, Dr Thunder and Dr. Perky.

What do you think of the Pibb Xtra branding? Would you like it to go back to Mr. Pibb? Please let me know in the comments.

Thank you for watching.

  1. Up until very recently, I thought Pibb and Pibb Xtra were two different sodas. Probably because I saw the two names side-by-side for a LONG time during the change. Never got into it much though, a good soda but I’ve always been in the Dr. Pepper camp…

    • Thanks for the comment, Jonathan. Technically, they sort of are. The Pibb Xtra brand change also signaled a formula shift to a “bolder” taste. I don’t remember Mr. Pibb enough to know how noticeable the taste difference was, though.
