  1. Thanks for the mention! Root Beer is my favorite soda, by far. A&W from the tap is the best, but I like it from the can, bottle etc. as well. How does this stack up to A&W?

    • My pleasure. :) Thanks for your support, Chris. I’m not sure how it stacks up to A&W. From my casual drinking of it, I think I prefer A&W. But, I’ll have to do a tasting of it! :)

  2. @chrispian

I worked at an A&W in high school – as you can imagine, I got sick of the root beer after a while. However, it still holds a special place in my heart (and taste buds) – when I have it now it’s nothing but good memories!

  3. Had Scott’s at Plant (that’s the full name of the restaurant) on Merrimon Ave. in Asheville Memorial Day weekend. I like Root Beer but don’t seek it out all that often, but for some reason, unbeknownst to me, I ordered it. It tasted so much better…. so much richer and sweeter and real than the crap you get at the fountain at a pizza place…. Hires’ or the other mass-produced stuff. Outstanding.

    • Thanks for the comment, Mr. Krantz. I’m glad that you enjoyed it. Hires’ isn’t actually all that mass produced. I can’t recall ever seeing it in person. If you run into it somewhere, please let me know. :) Thanks.

  4. Uncle Scott’s is probably the best root beer I have ever drunk for several reasons. First, there is a real balance of flavors in the product unlike many of the popular brands. One thing this product does is entertain the taste buds while other root beers overpower the taste buds with one flavor. That, however is a matter of taste. We like the bouquet of the beverage above all else.

Whatever the WONF is worth, it is a comfort to know that the preponderance of the ingredients are natural. The one thing that makes a huge difference is the use of sugar rather than other sweeteners. Many people who visit outside the US, especially in the Latin American and Caribbean countries note that Coca Cola taste so much better. This is particularly interesting because the lore of the sweetener industry is that sweet is sweet and that people can’t tell the difference. (These are the same folks who go to the bar and order their favorite liquors by brand because they prefer the taste of one brand.) Whatever the reason, there is a subtle difference and Uncle Scott’s also entertains the taste bud with basic sugar, the substance to which we have become so accustomed.

Finally, Uncle Scott’s delicate balance of flavors is rounded off with a lower carbonation level than the popular drinks we find in the supermarket. This is, likewise, a matter of taste. Some like it “hot”, that is with a high level of carbonation. My wife and I are from the coastal South and find that highly carbonated beverages are more suited to our environment and low carbonation beverages have to be consumed very cold.

My wife and I enjoy the bouquet and sweetness of the beverage and would prefer a bit more carbonation. However, as it is, It is a perfect drink for a lazy afternoon relaxing after all the chores, gardening and yard work is done. Like all great beverages, it is to sipped and enjoyed during the lulls in our conversation. Good bye sweet-tea and hello Uncle Scott’s root beer.

    • Yeah, it’s definitely all a matter of taste. Glad that you found something that you enjoy. :)
